The GISD Alliance at COP27: Scaling up private investment for SDG and climate action
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are in deep peril. Global temperatures are rising quickly. By 2030, the global economy needs to emit 25 per cent less greenhouse gases compared to 2022 to avert disastrous climate disruptions.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement provide a framework for low-carbon, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development. They call for coherent implementation of sustainable development and climate action.
To achieve the SDGs and climate objectives, trillions of dollars of investments are necessary, particularly in developing countries. While public investment remains essential, mobilizing additional private capital will be critical to support the closing of the investment gap.
The GISD Alliance is hosting a side event during COP27 on Wednesday, 9 November 2022 1:15 - 2:15pm EET local time (7:15 - 8:15am EST NY time) at the SDG Pavilion (Blue Zone, Area B of COP27 - P29). GISD members will highlight the Key Deliverables of the GISD Alliance and will discuss realizing synergies between the sustainable development and climate agendas. The session will be moderated by Shameela Soobramoney, Chief Sustainability Officer, Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and the speakers will be:
